Just as we reported this morning that the Bowling Green Corvette assembly plant will be retooled for the upcoming 'C7' 2014 Corvette, Chevrolet is looking to make sure that its outgoing C6 Corvette goes out with a bang.
For 2013, Chevrolet has released a new promo video featuring its limited collector's edition 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible, which applies all major Z06 components onto a convertible body. Getting right down to business, the Corvette 427 will receive the awesome hand-built 7.0-liter (427 cubic-inch) LS7 V8, rated at 505-hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. As one would expect from a limited edition car with its model designation dedicated to the powerplant, the Corvette 427 goes from 0-to-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, only 0.1 of a second off the pace of the hardtop Z06.
Despite the emphasis on engine, that's not all the Corvette 427 has to offer: a Z06-derived suspension with magnificent Magnetic Rid Control dampers will be fitted to the special edition car as well. Carbon fiber panels for the hood, fenders, and floors will lighten up the 427 just enough to tip the scale at 3,355 lbs.
The Chevrolet Corvette 427 convertible will start at $77,750 and will only be available in limited numbers.
While the Corvette 427 convertible certainly has all the attributes of an awesome ride, we do have one complaint -- why hasn't Chevrolet introduced a drop-top Z06 sooner?
