Thank you, anonymous Jalopnik reader. A thoughtfully formed Google search was all it took to reveal that the new 2015 Corvette Z06 will boast 620 horsepower and and 650 lb.-ft. of torque.
Last year, leaked information has provided substantial evidence of the upcoming 2015 Corvette Z06 powerplant. The supercharged LT4 V8 is an extremely potent powerplant. Now that it is confirmed to produce 620 hp, it is effectively more than 100 hp more powerful than the preceding Z06 (505 hp). At 650 lb.-ft. of torque, the new Z06 produces even more torque than the halo Corvette ZR1 (604 lb.-ft. of torque).
Top speed and acceleration figures are unknown but it's important to not that the previous C6 Z06 made do with 505 hp and achieved a top speed of 198 mph. What's more, the 603 hp Hennessey HPE600 Corvette Stingray claims 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and a top speed exceeding 200 mph. Rest assured, the 200 mph milestone is guaranteed.
The 2015 Corvette Z06 isn't expected to debut until the Detroit Auto Show, when a press release from earlier this week announced that the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Corvette C7.R race car will be unveiled live on January 13 at 9:30 a.m. EST at Detroit. Of course, the details of a car of this nature cannot be kept under wraps for long.
According to Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter, the latest 2015 Corvette Z06 maybe be the last of its kind. Depending on whether Corvette Z06 sales pick up, GM may decide to end the fabled Z06 model. Take note, Corvette collectors, this will only add to the exclusivity of the Z06 moniker.
Stay tuned as we learn more about the 2015 Corvette Z06 in the days ahead of the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. Be sure to follow the 2015 Corvette Z06 and Corvette C7.R reveal live stream here.
