India was not spared from the mayhem tied to the World Cup 2022 Final. Chaos erupted in Kerala with a 17-year-old teen reportedly collapsing and later on declared dead during the procession of Argentine fans from a local venue where Argentina vs. France final was being shown.
Aside from the teen, local police and several others were reportedly injured from the madness. Three were injured in Kannur in northern Kerala after drunk people ended up provoking others following a tense penalty shootout between the two teams in Qatar, India Today reported.
There were Indians who declared their support for France and got miffed at those who were rooting for Argentina. The violence eventually spilled out onto the streets.
Authorities reportedly took in at least six people in custody in the booze-fuelled thuggery.
Elsewhere, some cops also got caught in the craziness and ended up getting assaulted as they were trying to calm down Argentina supporters in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. Two were reportedly injured while another was assaulted for trying to stop a mob trying to block the traffic.
Another was assaulted after he reportedly tried to remove two youngsters who were causing trouble at a venue where the World Cup final was being live-streamed.
This comes weeks after a round of violence broke out between Argentina and Brazil fans. Some were even filmed slugging it out with poles and sticks as locals tried to break up the chaos.
That incident eventually came to a close when authorities came in to help. A probe has been launched to determine the protagonists in the ugly scene.
Riots also erupted in France after the dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout between Argentina and France. Videos posted on social media showed huge commotion and chaos on the streets even as police personnel tried to maintain law and order situation. Police officers were being attacked with rocks and fireworks.
Videos of these scenes were posted on Twitter by Eastern European media NEXTA.
