A 16-year-old boy has been accused of killing his little brother after the young boy refused to hand over his mobile phone to the suspect to play an online game in Kheda district, Gujarat, India on Monday, May 23.
On May 23, the teen suspect and his 11-year-old little brother were taking turns playing an online game on a mobile phone they shared turns. However, when the younger sibling refused to give his older brother the device even though it was his turn to play, things took a tragic turn.
Enraged, the 16-year-old accused allegedly picked up a large rock and began hitting his younger brother in the head with it. The victim, who suffered grievous head injuries, immediately fell unconscious. The teen suspect proceeded to tie the rock to the victim's body using copper wire, carried his body to a nearby well, and threw him down the reservoir, NDTV reported.
After committing the gruesome murder, the accused fled the scene, boarded a bus, and traveled to Rajasthan without informing his family.
Their parents became nervous after returning home from work as they could not find both their children. After searching for them in the village, the couple decided to inquire with their relatives in their hometown of Rajasthan. They subsequently found out about the whereabouts of their eldest son.
After bringing their son back home, the parents asked him about what happened to his younger brother. The accused subsequently confessed to the crime and told them that he had killed him following a fight over a mobile phone, the Times Of India reported.
Following this, the parents informed the police about the incident. Upon learning about the violent ordeal on Wednesday, the police rushed to the spot and detained the underaged accused. Following this, they retrieved the victim's body from the well and registered a case of murder against the minor suspect.
The family reportedly hailed from the Banswara district of the neighboring state Rajasthan. They had come to Goblej to work as farm laborers at an agricultural field on the outskirts of the village.
