A 15-year-old boy allegedly killed himself after his father refused his demands and declined to buy him a brand new iPhone. The tragic incident reportedly happened at the Palem Vagu project in the Venkatapuram Police Station limits of Telangana, India.
The deceased 15-year-old boy, identified as P Sailikith, reportedly recently completed his tenth-grade examinations. Before the series of tests began, Sailikith had asked his parents to buy him an iPhone as a reward for finishing the examination. However, when the boy asked his parents about the phone again, they turned down his demand, the Times Of India reported.
Upset over the sudden rejection, Sailikith allegedly threatened his parents, told them that he will take his own life, and walked out of their house. Sailikith’s parents reportedly did not take his reaction seriously at that time.
However, when the boy did not return home after several hours, the parents panicked and began searching for him in their neighborhood. Villagers subsequently located the child’s body in the Palem Vagu project area. Following this, the parents rushed to the scene and confirmed the identity of the body. The authorities have registered a case under section 174 (suspicious death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 15-year-old boy reportedly killed himself after his parents refused to buy him a new mobile phone in Attapadi, Palakkad, Kerala, India on Sunday, May 29, Latin Times reported.
The deceased, identified only as Abhijit, a tenth-grade student at Mount Carmel School in Jellipara, Attapadi, allegedly took his own life by hanging himself from a swing in the open yard in front of his house, after his parents refused to buy him a new mobile phone to play games.
Abhijit was reportedly addicted to the mobile game PUBG (PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds) and received several warnings from his parents to stop playing the game due to its habit-forming nature. Abhijit's parents had taken him to counseling after they noticed him spending hours on his mobile phone. However, even after several sessions of counseling and warnings, Abhijit allegedly kept on demanding a new mobile device to play games on.
Abhijit had been staying with his mother, Bindhu, who lives estranged from her husband. Since Bindhu was undergoing financial difficulties, she declined her son’s request for a new phone. However, Abhijit reportedly felt upset after his demand wasn't met. He subsequently killed himself on Sunday, May 29.
