A 15-year-old boy was killed on Saturday, Sept. 25, during a wedding that was held at the Wetland Hotel in Mofor, in the Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The victim was identified as Oghenemaro Eriana who was allegedly stabbed to death by a bouncer for allegedly picking money at a wedding reception.
The bouncer was identified as Francis Utuedor. He has been arrested for stabbing Eriana after the teenager tried to pick money sprayed on the couple during the ceremony.
The boy attended the wedding with his mother. They were the groom’s neighbors on Kolokolo street according to a witness.
“The boy stayed on Kolokolo Street in Udu Road and went to the party with his mother, but was stabbed to death before help could come his way,” the unnamed witness stated. “They said that his mother lost her older son about two months ago before this tragic death of another son.”
It appears the Utuedor got a bit overzealous when Eriana attempted to pick up some naira notes being sprayed on the dancing couple.
“It happened at the Wetland Hotel. The deceased was a 15-year-old boy. The suspect is in our custody and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The body has been deposited in a mortuary awaiting an autopsy,” Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright stated.
It was an unfortunate tragedy especially for the mother who had already lost another son two months ago. It was not mentioned who the bodyguard was employed with and if he had legal representation.
Additional details on the case are expected, including what sanctions Utuedor may face.
No other statements were released by the couple and other witnesses who were present at the Wetland Hotel.
