A man reportedly killed himself after his son committed suicide over playing mobile games in Kundrathur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India on Thursday, Oct. 6.
The 14-year-old boy, identified as Naveen, a student in tenth grade, used to reportedly spend a lot of time playing games on his mobile phone. Seeing Naveen play mobile games, his 40-year-old father Sundar, a carpenter by profession, scolded him for playing games and told him to concentrate on his studies, the Times Of India reported.
Naveen, who felt upset after his father scolded him, decided to end his life. When he was alone at home on Thursday, Oct. 6, Naveen committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling.
When Sundar returned home, he found his son hanging from the ceiling and raised an alarm. Hearing this, the neighbors rushed to the scene and told Sundar that Naveen had died, LatestLY reported.
Upset over the loss of his son, Sundar rushed to the kitchen, picked up a kitchen knife, and cut his neck and hands. Sundar then locked himself in a room and committed suicide by hanging himself.
Following the incident, the neighbors alerted the Kundrathur police. The officers responded to the scene and sent the bodies for an autopsy to Chromepet government hospital.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident and a probe is underway.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 17-year-old boy allegedly killed himself after his father sternly scolded him for spending a lot of time on his mobile phone in Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, India on Sunday, June. 26, as previously reported.
The deceased boy, identified as V Ajay Kumar, 17, a 12th-grade student studying in a private school, was reportedly spending too much time on his cell phone instead of studying on Saturday night. Seeing this, his father Vadivel confronted him and reprimanded him for wasting time on his mobile phone instead of focusing on his studies.
The next morning, on Sunday, June. 26, after Vadivel and the boy's other family members woke up, they found Ajay hanging dead in his room.
Following the gruesome discovery, the family alerted the police regarding the incident. The officers immediately responded to the scene and sent the teen's body to Dharmapuri Government Hospital to conduct an autopsy.
