A 12th grader at a private residential school in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu allegedly killed herself Wednesday, July 13, after leaving behind a note accusing her teachers of harrassment, police said.
The student, R Srimathi was found dead near her hostel building at Chinna Salem near Kallakurichi on Wednesday morning, according to reports.
The hostel watchman alerted the school authorities after making the shocking discovery and eventually the police were called to the scene.
Responding officers found the teen’s bloodied body lying on the ground next to her hostel building. The body was sent to Kallakurichi Government Medical College Hospital for any autopsy.
Police beleive the teen jumped to her death from the 2nd floor of her hostel building.
Meanwhile, investigators recovered a suicide note from the teen victim’s hostel room. The note, purportedly written by the teen victim, indicated that she was being tortured by two of her teachers.
“The two teachers were brought to the police station for an enquiry. They told us that they just casually asked her to concentrate more and study hard as she was very playful,” Kallakurichi SP S Selvakumar told The Indian Express.
The family of the victim staged a protest, blocking the Kallakurichi-Salem highway seeking justice for the teen. The mob was chanting slogans accusing the school management of pushing the teen to take the extreme step, police said.
The police responded to the scene of protest and pacified the protestors. A case was registered under Section 174 (unnatural death) of CrPC.
“We are carrying out the investigation. The suicide note says the girl was scolded by these teachers and the other teachers also know about the incident. The post-mortem is being carried out and once it is completed, we will hand over the body to the parents,” SP Selvakumar said.
In another shocking case, a doctor who was found dead near a retail mall in India’s Kolhapur on Sunday morning, July 10, is believed to have killed herself police said, after they found a suicide note and a medication syringe next to her lifeless body.
The victim has been identified as, 30-year-old Apurva Pravinchandra Hendre, a surgeon at a private hospital in the city.
The investigation began after the victim’s father, a gynecologist, filed his daughter’s missing report. The police had been searching for the surgeon when they were alerted about an unresponsive woman near a shopping mall in Tarbai park.
The responding officers rushed the victim to a local hospital where doctors pronounced her dead, reports said.
Investigators recovered a suicide note and a medical syringe from the scene, which indicated a case of suicide, a police official said.
According to a preliminary investigation, the surgeon was dealing with extreme stress in both her work and personal life.
“The suicide note states that she had work stress as well as personal issues, which prompted her to take the extreme step. We are waiting for the full post-mortem report to find out if the death had been caused due to overdose of those medications,” a police official told the Times of India.
