105-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Raped By 40-Year-Old Man While Sleeping

A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly heinously raping a 105-year-old woman while she was asleep in her room in Sege in the West Ada District of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.

On July 10, Agnes Zotorvi, the caregiver of the elderly victim, reportedly heard the pensioner screaming around midday after David Addo, 40, a welder by profession, broke into the room of Lomokie Tanihu, 105, and forcefully coerced the older woman into sexual intercourse while she was sleeping, Atinka Online reported.

Zotorvi immediately alerted their neighbors and sought help from local law enforcement, with Addo being apprehended and retrained by concerned Good Samaritans as they waited for the arrival of the Sege police.

The old woman had reportedly previously complained to her relatives that someone routinely invaded into her room to sexually assault her on numerous occasions. Her family, however, rebuffed the serious complaints, chalking up the reported incidents to the 105-year-old woman's dementia.

The victim reportedly suffered bleeding-related issues in the previous months. Even though the victim was treated on several occasions, the bleeding reportedly kept recurring. With Addo finally caught redhanded, the family now believes his frequent assaults to be was responsible for the old lady’s hemorrhage issues.

Addo was reportedly brought before the Sege Magistrate Court on Thursday, July 15, and remanded in police custody to reappear at a later date, GhanaWeb reported.

Meanwhile, the victim is being treated at the Battor Roman Catholic Hospital since the alleged sexual assault and is expected to be discharged soon.

An investigation into the suspect's background reportedly revealed that Addo was recently caught having sexual relations with an allegedly deranged woman, making residents believe that he was doing so for money rituals. Addo's records show previous arrests related to rape and sexual misconduct.

In a similar but unrelated incident, an Australian teenager was reportedly sentenced to seven years in prison on June 24 for allegedly attempting to rape a blind 93-year-old woman and robbing her home in Perth, Latin Times reported.

Elijah Jonathan Linton Gilla, 19, reportedly broke into a blind 93-year-old woman's North Beach home in June last year through the back door and allegedly raped the victim who was alone at home. After brutally raping the helpless woman, Gilla reportedly fleed the scene with her gold watch, her opal rings and pieces of jewelry that the widow received as gifts from her departed husband.

Police immediately tracked down the suspect to a lot near the Ocean View Motel, just a few hours after the assault, and took him into custody. He told the police that he “went a bit crazy” and “didn’t mean to hurt that old lady.”

Judge Timothy Sharp reportedly sentenced Gilla to seven years in prison. Gilla will be entitled to parole after five years.
