In a tragic turn of events, a 10-year-old girl allegedly took her own life after her parents went to a religious function without her in Bhavaninagar locality in Rajkot, Gujarat, India on Sunday, Dec. 12.
The young girl, identified as Khushali Chauhan, allegedly killed herself by hanging a noose from the ceiling of their house after her parents attended a religious event but decided not to take her along with them, the Times Of India reported.
After the girl's parents returned from the function, they found her room locked from inside. Despite repeated knocking, the girl did not open the door. The parents proceeded to break the door open, only to find Chauhan's lifeless body hanging from the ceiling.
The girl's parents rushed her to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment, however, the doctors at the facility pronounced her dead upon arrival.
Chauhan reportedly has two brothers and is the eldest of the three siblings. According to a preliminary investigation conducted by the police, the girl took the extreme step as she was angry that her parents refused to take her with them to the religious function they attended.
The investigators are waiting for the autopsy results to confirm the girl's cause of death.
“We will get the forensic postmortem done and question other family members to know the exact reason for her suicide," a police officer said.
Meanwhile, the girl's uncle speculated that she may have taken her own life after being influenced by the crime series that she regularly watched on television.
In a similar but unrelated incident, a 12-year-old schoolgirl named Khushi reportedly killed herself after she was left frustrated by her online classes and homework in Gujarat, India on June 22, 2020, India Today reported.
On June 22, 2020, when Khushi's mother asked her to finish her homework, she reportedly made an excuse and went inside her room. When Khushi did not return after a while, however, her mother went to look for her and found her hanging limp from the ceiling of her room.
Her family allegedly faced financial woes at the height of the pandemic. Even though the family hadn't been able to pay their electricity bills, the girl's father Rohit Shingadia had bought her a smartphone for US$131 (10,000 Indian Rupees) to help her with her online classes.
Khushi was reportedly a Class 8 student at a Gujarati-medium school in Rajkot, Gujarat, India.
