A 10-year-old boy was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by a man who was having an illicit affair with his mother. The crime is believed to have stemmed after the now-deceased child caught his mother and the accused in an objectionable position.
The victim, identified as Neeraj Kumar, a native of Laxminia village in Patna, India, went missing on Friday, June 18.
The family members who went looking for the boy found him dead inside a canal on the outskirts of the village.
Following the discovery, the boy’s mother, who has not been publicly identified, registered a police complaint against the suspect, Sanjay Pandit, with whom she was having an illicit relationship.
In the complaint, the 45-year-old mother alleged that the accused kidnapped her son and then sodomized the child before murdering him, according to a report by The Times of India.
Based on the complaint, the police took the suspect into custody. He confessed to the crime during interrogation, police said.
The suspect told police that he strangled the boy to death after taking him to the canal.
According to the police, the deceased victim had spotted his mother and the man in a compromising situation. The suspect who had been keeping the relationship a secret feared if the boy would tell it to someone.
"Pandit told the police that Neeraj had spotted his mother with him in an objectionable position a few days ago… It was due to this reason that Pandit killed him so that his illicit relationship with the child’s mother who is 15 years elder to him is not leaked to anyone else," a report by The Times of India quoted a police officer as saying.
The child’s body was sent in for an autopsy and the results are being awaited. The autopsy results would reveal the exact cause of death also whether the boy was sodomized before being murdered.
No details were available about the child’s biological father. The charges imposed on the suspect are also unclear at this time.
