Last month, Hyundai announced a fun collaboration with the hit TV series Walking Dead on an exclusive "zombie survival" Hyundai Elantra Coupe. Piggybacking the zombie phenomenon in pop culture, the creation has finally been revealed at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.
Put together by the Design Craft Fabrication team under the artistic direction of The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, the zombie Elantra Coupe celebrates the 100th issue of The Walking Dead comic.
Practicality is thrown out the window and all the physical limitations of an automobile are ignored. The zombie Elantra Coupe is strictly a fun design-study meant to wow the many fans of the comic. Anchored to the front of the car is an enormous Zombie Plow fitted with spikes to impale walkers that get in the way. For defense, front and rear floodlights provide maximum visibility while armored windows provide security. A roof hatch allows for a quick escape if one gets inside and a CB radio provides the driver contact with the outside.
Vice president of marketing at Hyundai Steve Shannon is excited about the finished product, "Our custom Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine is the ultimate car for The Walking Dead fans and anyone who wants to survive a zombie invasion."
Check out the gallery and a short video providing some insight in the build process below. The Hyundai board will probably never green light a zombie package for the market but judging by the enormous cow catcher hanging off the front, a driver's license probably isn't sufficient to operate this beast anyway.
