Zoe Saldana is set to star on the NBC adaptation of the Ira Levin classic, "Rosemary's Baby." The 35-year-old actress will play the titled character in the four-hour miniseries according to Deadline. “Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel,” said NBC’s head of longform Quinn Taylor. “With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this reimagined event mini-series is off to a great start.”
The television adaptation is based on the 1967 best-selling novel that is centered around a young woman who moves into an apartment building with her struggling actor husband, Guy. The couple is quickly welcomed by an elderly eccentric couple which Rosemary finds absurd and intrusive, while her husband finds himself visiting them frequently. Rosemary has long wanted children, but her husband wants to wait until he is more established in his career. After some time their luck starts turning, Guy, starts landing coveted roles and Rosemary finally gets pregnant. Rosemary soon finds out her neighbors are not who they say they are and she finds herself trying to run away from everyone that is trying to harm her and her baby.
A film starring Mia Farrow and directed by Roman Polanski was released in 1968 with critical acclaim. The movie adaptation landed Ruth Gordon (the intrusive neighbor), an Academy Award and Golden Glob for Best Supporting Actress. The adaptation set forth by NBC will change the location to Paris, where it is also set to film shortly. What do you think of the Rosemary's Baby adaptation?
