Closing arguments in the trial of George Zimmerman have begun today. Soon the jury will be asked to decide whether or not Zimmerman killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in cold blood or self-defense.

In February 2012 Trayvon Martin was walking home from 7-11 when he and George Zimmerman encountered each other. What is known is that Zimmerman suspected Martin was up to no good because he was wearing a hoodie. This fit the description of a suspect in some neighborhood break-ins.

Zimmerman called 911 to report a suspicious person he was following. The 911 operator told Zimmerman not to follow his suspect but Zimmerman did not listen. Martin was becoming frustrated with Zimmerman following him, He told a friend he was on the phone with that a "creepy a** cracker" was following him.

What happened next is debatable. The truth depends on if you are talking to a Zimmerman Supporter or a Martin support. What really happened that night is known only to Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman.

What is known is that Zimmerman and Martin had an altercation that led to the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin. When police first arrived and began investigating they believed Zimmerman's self-defense story and declined to prosecute.

After community outrage and the claim of racial profiling the prosecution's office decided to press charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter against Zimmerman.

In a trial that has divided a nation with some believing self-defense and others shouting murder, courtroom watchers have seen a variety of witnesses give testimony and at this point the jury could go either way.

It is believed that the jury will begin deliberating Zimmerman's fate as early as Friday.
