Milwaukee Brewers ace Yovani Gallardo was arrested and charged with driving under the influence Tuesday morning according to multiple media outlets.
The legal limit in the state of Wisconsin is 0.08. When given a sobriety test after being pulled over by a Milwaukee County police officer, Gallardo registered a blood alcohol level of 0.22 according to spokesperson Fran McLaughlin of the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department.
The 27-year-old is coming off a 2012 campaign where he posted a record of 16-9 and a more than respectable 3.66 ERA. Gallardo has also accumulated 200 or more strikeouts in each of his last 4 seasons in Milwaukee.
Off to a slow start in 2013, Gallardo is 0-1 through three starts with an earned run average above 6. With a line-up capable of keeping Milwaukee competitive in the National League, Gallardo needs to get back to his dominant form if he and Milwaukee want to be considered serious contenders.
In 2010, Gallardo and the Brewers agreed to five-year deal worth over $30 million that keeps the righty in Milwaukee through the 2016 season.
Gallardo will not face jail time for his recent DUI since it is his first offense but ESPN Milwaukee reports the starting pitcher will be fined $778.80 which includes $300 for the DUI charge, $300 for his level of intoxication and another $178.80 for deviating lanes.
Since joining the Brewers in 2007, Gallardo is 69-44 with a 3.69 ERA and has over 900 strikeouts.
