A 23-year-old woman bled to death after being ambushed by a wild pack of dogs while out for her evening run.
At around 7 pm on Monday, Nov. 1, Florencia Ledesma was jogging on waste ground near her home in Albardon in the western Argentinian city of San Juan when she was brutally mauled by at least half a dozen vicious canines.
Florencia managed to phone her police brother Enzo, who rushed to the scene on his motorbike.
When Enzo arrived at the location, the dogs were still on top of his sister, brutally mauling her. He managed to scare off the beasts by shooting at them when they lunged at him.
Florencia was unresponsive and bleeding heavily when her brother found her. She had suffered serious bite injuries to her arms, legs, and chest, the Mirror reported.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and rushed the young student to a nearby hospital, where she died during treatment.
Florencia’s aunt Rosa Ledesma, who was caring for her injured relative as they waited for the ambulance to arrive, told a local newspaper: “All she asked for was water”.
“I put water in her mouth but after a short while I realized she wasn’t moving anymore and that’s when I think she was already dead.”
Florencia’s friend, Javi Ortiz wrote on social media after learning of the tragedy: “What awful news”.
“Rest in peace Florencia Ledesma”.
“Life took us down different parts but today I remember you as the excellent person you were.”
“I cannot believe something like this has happened when you had such a great future in front of you and objectives to reach.”
“My sincere condolences to your loved ones.”
It is still unclear if the dogs that attacked Florencia were strays or have an owner who has been identified.
The local police flew drones around the area of the attack to track down the animals which are still said to be on the loose.
Florencia made sure to jog every evening because she wanted to be in top shape as she intended to join the police force, just like her brother.
She apparently chose the wasteland for her routine jogs because she felt it was safer than the streets around her home where a mugging incident was reported recently, local reports said.
