This latest Apple revelation is groundbreaking to say the least. Well, groundbreaking and a bit perverse. A new video has revealed that the iPhone 5S' Touch ID sensor works with far more than just fingerprints. The man in the video registers his nipple with the iPhone 5S and then proceeds to lock and unlock the device with nothing other than his nipples. And while we applaud his investigative mind, we are a bit confused on how he first embarked on his nipple registering adventure.
The video is pretty authentic looking, and this is not the first time we have seen the iPhone 5S unlocked with body parts other than a fingerprint, we have seen users register toe prints, and even a cat’s paw with the Touch ID sensor and then continuing to lock and unlock the device. But the nipple ID is by far the most absurd.
The video was original published by the Japanese website, Rocket News. In the video, the male successfully goes through the process of registering his “fingerprints” with Touch ID using only his right nipple. The Touch ID seamlessly registered and identified the nipple, and unlocked the phone in less than a second. A second person then tries to do the same with his (unregistered) nipple, but the phone won't unlock.
In another video posted by Rocket News, another male attempts to use the Touch ID with his toe and not-shockingly the toe print is registered and confirmed. But after being successful with his toe, he attempts to register his nose to little avail. He can’t unlock the iPhone 5S with his nose. Not necessarily surprisingly considering the lack of imprints and wrinkles on most noses.
So now we are left wondering why does the nipple work? We understand that each nipple on the human body is unique, but are there defining characteristics that differ so greatly from the nose? And now that we know, a cat’s paw, a finger, a toe, and a nipple can all be utilized with Touch ID, what other individual body parts with iPhone5S’s sensor recognize. An earlobe? Lips? Belly button? Hey, the possibilities are endless!
