Kansas was in a state of emergency last week as a newborn girl was abducted and her mother was found dead in their residence. As the state and FBI authorities scrambled to find the missing child, they discovered that the women who committed the heinous crime had fled to another state. Now the prime suspect is awaiting extradition.
According to FOX News Latino, Yesenia Sesmas, the Texas woman who is currently in custody for kidnapping the newborn girl and murdering her mother is currently fighting extradition back to Kansas.
The site reports that the Sedgwick County district attorney's office revealed Tuesday it has begun the process of obtaining a governor's extradition warrant for Sesmas. She has been held in a Dallas jail on an outstanding Kansas warrant and immigration detainer since a police raid on Nov. 19 at her Dallas home.
She was arrested in Dallas after a police department SWAT team there executed a search warrant at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday, Ojile said. Sofia, whose name has also been spelled Sophia by police, was found alive and safe inside. She was taken to a Dallas hospital for a health evaluation, he said, and has since been reunited with her family.
Three other people who live at the Dallas address where Sesmas was arrested were questioned at the Dallas Police Department but knew nothing of the scheme, Ojile said. They are Sesmas’ boyfriend, her son and her niece, he said. They have since been released form custody.
The complaint detailing the charges against Sesmas won't be revealed until she appears in court.
Extradition could take up to 90 days. Sesmas attorney has not released any comment on the pending case.
