Paulina Rubio and Simon Cowell
Paulina Rubio and Simon Cowell FOX

The four-chair challenge continues on Season 3 of "The X-Factor" with Simon Cowell and Paulina Rubio finalizing their team in this grueling singing battle. This new stage of the competition is new to the musical reality and it has the top 10 finalists of each group singing in front of the judges hoping to land a spot in the four chairs. Once the four chairs are filled and if the mentor wants to keep a singer, they have to do a switch-a-roo and replace the contestant with one that is sitting down. Some have found this aspect of the show cruel as the emotions of the singers are at an all time high. Think about it, they say yes to you and then they boot you because another singer is better than you. It has been cringy at times, but it does allow for riveting television and a mechanic that had not been used in other singing competition shows like "American Idol" and "The Voice."

In the first week of the four-chair challenge we saw Kelly Rowland and Demi Lovato struggle to make the difficult decision to keep or to send home the singers. Rowand's "Over 25" team include Jeff Gutt, Rachel Potter, James Kenney and Lillie McCloud. Demi had a difficult time keeping and switching her team and received a lot of boo's from the crowd, particularly when she switched out Ashly Williams in favor of Rion Paige. Williams had an incredible audition and on her team she had a couple of singers that did not do as great, but were still pushed through. Her final team consists of Paige, Khaya Cohen, Danielle Geimer and Ellona Santiago. Now it's Rubio with the "Boys" and Cowell with the "Groups" who will experience the tension first-hand. Who will make it through to the live shows? FOX will air the show tonight, Wednesday (October 9) at 8pm ET/PT for 2 hours. The show's YouTube page offers a LIVE hangout right before the show and they upload the performances a day after. Check out a sneak peek of the groups that will be fighting for survival tonight!
