If El Tri and the United States were to cross paths in the World Cup 2014 in Brazil, President Barack Obama plans to take up a bet with his Mexican counterpart, Enrique Peña Nieto. Next month, El Tri will take on the stars and stripes in a friendly match on it way to the World Cup: although President Obama has no interest in betting on this particular match, he has admitted that he would put a wager on a World Cup match, with a bottle of tequila no less.

"I think we have to bet if we meet Mexico in the World Cup -- I would bet a tequila," said President Obama on Univisión TDN. The American President is awar that both his team as well as El Tri have a tough road ahead of them at the World Cup given the pools in which both countries have been placed. Mexico will play against Cameroon, Croatia and Brazil in the pool round, while the Americancs will play Ghana, Portugal and Germany in the first phase.

"The American Team has improved considerably, we played well in South Africa and we will do well in Brazil. I know that Mexico had problems in [in the CONCAF tournament]. I know we will do well, the US got a tough group and Mexico has some difficult matches as well," he stated. Last time Mexico and the United States played in a World Cup was in Korea-Japan in 2002, when the American team defeated El Tri in the round of 16. El Tri will be hoping for revenge.
