Carlos Vela, one of Mexico's football stars, will not be playing in the World Cup. The Mexican Football Association (FMF) confirmed that the Real Sociedad striker will not be selected for Brazil. Vela has not played for Mexico since 2011 following ongoing disputes with the governing body. In an official statement issued by the FMF, it was claimed that the star player was not 'mentally or emotionally ready' to feature in the upcoming tournament.
Carlos Vela is often regarded as the best Mexican player competing internationally. He has nine goals in 35 international appearances for Mexico. He refused to play for the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup after an arguement with coach Jose Manuel de la Torre. "In this process that has been developing for the next World Cup, I have not been 100 percent mentally ready to represent (Mexico) — or form part of the representation — and give it the maximum it deserves," Vela said in a letter he released Monday.
24-year-old Vela has scored 10 goals for Real Sociedad but will not be scoring any goals in this year's World Cup. His disagreement with Manuel de la Torre in 2011 came after the striker was suspended for six months for allegedly having a party in his hotel room with the Celtic's Efrain Juarez following a 1-0 friendly win against Colombia in Monterrey on 8 September .Manchester United's Javier Hernandez and Tottenham's Giovani Dos Santos were fined $4,000 over the incident.
