A woman allegedly strangled and killed her lover for hiding his first marriage from her in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, India on Jan. 9.
The deceased man, identified as Rakesh Saroj, a former Central Reserve Police Force officer, used to have frequent disputes with his wife following which she left the house to stay with her relatives. After Rakesh's wife left him, Rakesh met Sunita through Snapchat, got close to her, and then decided to marry her, Telangana Today reported.
However, Rakesh did not tell Sunita that he was already married. Instead, he told her that he had decided to stay single since he was posted in Kashmir for the last 10 years.
In Dec. 2022, a few days after Rakesh and Sunita exchanged rings, Sunita came to know through her acquaintances that Rakesh was already married. Sunita reportedly felt infuriated over the discovery and decided to kill Rakesh, Gulf News reported.
Sunita called Rakesh on Jan. 9 and demanded $3,704 from him. However, Rakesh told her that the money transaction was not taking place due to a technical glitch. He told her that he would be able to give only $1,234 and visited her the next morning.
However, as soon as Rakesh entered the house, Sunita attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon on the head and then strangulated him. After murdering Rakesh, she sought her father's help. Sunita's father and his associate then helped her in disposing off the body.
However, the next day, the police recovered Rakesh's body in Sujawalpur village in the thickets under the Kalwari police circle on Jan. 10.
When officers checked Rakesh's call history details, they found that the last call from Rakesh's phone was made to Sunita on Jan. 10 morning. Following the discovery, a police team picked her up and interrogated her in connection with Rakesh's death. When interrogated, she finally confessed to killing Rakesh and disposing of his body with the help of her father.
Following her confession, officers arrested Sunita, her father, and her father's associate in connection with Rakesh's murder.
According to Alok Srivastava, Station House Office of Kalwari, Rakesh had taken voluntary retirement from the CRPF in 2020 and had started a travel business.
