A Milwaukee woman faces a homicide raps following being charged on Monday, Dec. 13, after she allegedly killed a man she was going out on a date with by stabbing him multiple times before running him over with his SUV.
Twenty-three-year-old Lydia Carmona-Cartagena has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide with a dangerous weapon for killing Chad Wilson, a 41-year-old community advocate for previously incarcerated people, whom she first met on Facebook a week before the incident, The Daily Beast reported.
They reportedly spent at least 24 hours together when they met up in real life, and did various activities, including alcohol and cocaine. Wilson allegedly grew more aggressive against Carmona-Cartagena, before she asked him to take her home, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
When Wilson made her exit his 2011 Cadillac SUV, however, she reportedly got angry about having to carry her things home and they started fighting. She allegedly stabbed Wilson three times in the leg and abdomen before he managed to take away her knife. The woman, however, proceeded to take his keys and chased him with his SUV.
“She stated that she missed a couple of times and was finally able to hit him in the street,” the police report said. “She saw he was still moving after she ran him over the first time, so she ran him over a few more times to make sure he was dead. She stated she ran him over the first time to kill him.”
She then drove off the scene when she realized that a bystander was calling 911. She was subsequently arrested at her residence hours later, with the SUV in her driveway. When asked later why she killed him, Carmona-Cartagena said that she was afraid he would shoot her, according to ABC affiliate WISN.
“I know why I hit him, for my safety, but I was hoping that he was still OK. That's just the kind of person I am,” she said.
Previously arrested for felony domestic abuse, she is still currently in jail with her bail set at $100,000. She could be sentenced to life in prison if she is convicted of the charges.
