Woman Finds Out That Her Husband Is A Trans Man Eight Years After Their Marriage

A woman reportedly only recently found out that her husband is a trans man some eight years after their marriage in Vadodara, Gujarat, India.

The 40-year-old woman, whose identity has been withheld from the public, reportedly married her husband, Viraj Vardhan, eight years ago in 2014.

In a bizarre turn of events, the woman has filed a complaint of cheating and unnatural sex against her husband, identified only as Vardhan, reportedly formerly named Vijaita, after recently discovering that her husband had undergone gender affirmation surgery some time after their union, the Times Of India reported.

The complainant, who was previously married and has a 14-year-old daughter in her first marriage, reportedly met Vardhan through a matrimonial site nine years ago after her first husband died in a car accident in 2011.

After getting to know each other, the couple got married in 2014 and went to Kashmir, India to celebrate their honeymoon. However, Vardhan reportedly didn't consummate the marriage and kept giving excuses for many days to avoid sexual contact. When the woman pressured him to engage in sexual activity, he claimed that he had suffered an accident while he was in Russia some years ago and that the incident had rendered him incapable of having sex.

The accused told his wife that he would be normal after undergoing a minor surgery. Years later, in January 2020, he told his wife that he wanted to undergo bariatric surgery to reduce his weight. However, after coming back from the operation, he revealed that he had actually undergone some form of gender affirmation surgery, not bariatric surgery, India Today reported.

The woman alleged in her police complaint that Vardhan began performing unnatural sex acts with her while threatening her with dire consequences if she talked about the incident to anyone. The woman also claimed in her complaint that Vardhan took a loan amounting to US$112,852 (90,00,000 Indian Rupees) in her name to buy an apartment without her consent.

Based on the complaint lodged by the woman, an FIR (first information report) was lodged against Vardhan and his family members at the Gotri Police Station on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Following the complaint, the accused has been detained and brought to Vadodara from Delhi.
