Woman Cop Found Dead At Home, Mystery Behind Alleged Suicide Under Probe

A 23-year-old cop was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her rented home in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, July 24, authorities said.

The woman constable, identified as Ruchi Sachan allegedly killed herself by hanging from a ceiling fan in her rented home in the Deviganj area of Kaushambi district on Sunday night.

She was posted at the Kada Dham police station, the Times of India reported.

The shocking death came to light when police officers did a welfare check at the victim’s home after her family members alerted them that she wasn’t answering their phone calls for a while.

Officers who responded to the home found the front door locked. They broke open the door and gained entry into the home after no one answered even after repeated attempts.

The cop was found hanging dead in her bedroom, police said. The body was brought down from the noose and then sent to a medical examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the official cause of death.

It is unclear if investigators have recovered a suicide note from the scene. The exact circumstances that forced the victim to take the extreme step remain unclear. But, investigators believe family issues as the primary cause behind the tragedy.

The police are speaking to the victim’s family members and friends to gain a better insight into the alleged suicide death. A further probe is underway.

In another incident, the police team investigating the suicide death of a police officer's wife revealed that the cop might have watched the victim kill herself through a hidden camera.

The civil police officer, identified as Raneez is believed to have watched his wife, Najila (27) hanging herself to death after killing their two children, a five-year-old son, Tipu Sultan, and a one-year-old daughter, Malala, through a secret camera installed at their home in Alappuzha, Kerala.

Police said the hidden camera was placed in the hall of the quarters and connected to Ranees’ phone so that he could constantly observe Najla and the children.

He was arrested a day after the May 10 murder-suicide. Ranees was subsequently charged with harassment and abetment to suicide. He was suspended from duty after his remand.

The special investigation team also arrested Renees’s 24-year-old girlfriend, Shahana in connection with the murder-suicide. She was arrested on the charge of abetment of suicide.
