A woman who was reportedly battling depression allegedly killed herself after she murdered her three-and-a-half-year-old daughter in RR Nagar, Bengaluru, India on Thursday, June 30.
The 31-year-old mother, identified as Deepa, a resident of Mantri Alpyne apartment on Uttarahalli Main Road and a former software engineer, allegedly murdered her three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Riya, by hanging the child from a ceiling fan in her bedroom.
After killing her toddler daughter, the woman left a suicide note for her loved ones claiming that nobody was responsible for her death and subsequently took her own life in a similar way by hanging herself in their flat, the Indian Express reported.
"Nobody is responsible for it. I just felt life is full of problems. I am sorry mom and Divya. Love you Shona," she reportedly wrote in her suicide note.
According to investigating officers, Divya is Deepa's sister and Shona is the pet name of her husband Adarsh, who works as a software engineer with a private firm. Deepa also worked as a software engineer but quit her job after giving birth to Riya. Deepa and Adarsh reportedly got married five years ago in 2017 and have been living in Bengaluru since.
Deepa was reportedly suffering from health issues after childbirth and had been undergoing treatment for a nagging stomach ache and fever for the past week. According to her family members, Deepa was upset and depressed about her health issues. Officers suspect that Deepa might have taken the extreme step due to her health problems, the Times Of India reported.
According to investigating officers, the tragic incident took place between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 30. Deepa reportedly spoke to her sister Divya over the phone at around 5 p.m.
The tragic deaths came to light at around 9 p.m. after Adarsh returned home from work and discovered Deepa and Riya hanging side by side from the ceiling fan.
Following the incident, the officers registered a murder case against Deepa in relation to Riya's death and an unnatural death case relating to Deepa's suicide.
Meanwhile, the victims' bodies have been handed over to the family and a probe is underway to ascertain whether there were marital problems between Deepa and Adarsh.
