A woman has arrested by the Ogun state police command on Sunday for allegedly trying to injure the son of a neighbor for stealing money from her purse.
The suspect was identified as Shade Adelowo who allegedly tried to seriously injure an 11-year-old boy who stole N3000 from her purse. The boy was identified as Kehindi Ojo.
The woman is a mother of two and resides at Giwa oke aro area of Agbado. She was arrested after a report was filed at Agbado divisional headquarters by the victim's mother.
According to the report, Adelowo is accusing Ojo of stealing whenever the boy’s mother was not around. The 11-year-old stayed with the suspect at times.
As punishment, Adelowo allegedly used blades to inflict serious injuries on the child. Upon receiving the report, the DPO Agbado division dispatched detectives to the scene to check. Adelowo was arrested not long after.
It was also learned that the mother of the victim also had two other children. Her husband left her, forcing her to take on whatever job to take care of her three kids. It turns out that the children are left to Adelowo’s care each time she had to work.
However, she was surprised at the injuries inflicted on her 11-year-old son by her neighbor. She claims that Adelowo had been very good to her in the past.
“She stated further that it was a thing of surprise to her when she saw what the suspect did to her son, because she had been good to her in the past,” the mother allegedly said in the report.
The 11-year-old boy was taken to a hospital to have his injuries treated. According to the latest updates, Ojo is reportedly responding well.
As for Adelowo, Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole ordered her immediate transfer to the anti-human trafficking and child labor unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department. She will be undergoing further investigation for her actions. There was no mention of a potential court date and the penalties and sanctions she will be facing.
