Woman Who Allegedly Stabbed Sister, a Mother of 3, to Death Told Officers 'I Thought I Just Nipped Her': Police

An argument between two sisters that began the evening they attended a wedding together ended violently hours later, with one suffering a fatal stab wound. The other sister—charged with murder—will be tried next month.

Brianna Jarrells, 29, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her big sister, Alyssa Jarrells, who authorities say was stabbed in the neck with a utility knife, CBS reported. Prosecutors allege that on the night of Aug. 24, 2024, the sisters returned home from a wedding and got into a minor argument that escalated throughout the night.

A witness told investigators they saw the sisters arguing near their car before Alyssa, 33, reportedly exclaimed, "Oh my God," and collapsed to the ground with Brianna standing over her, WMAR reported.

Responding officers were able to ask Alyssa, "Where is the suspect?" to which she reportedly pointed at her sister and said, "Right there." Alyssa was rushed to the University of Maryland Hospital where she succumbed to the injury.

Jarrells told police she used a utility knife to intimidate her sister but did not intend to kill her. "I never actually tried, I pinned it up to her as a warning, I need to shut the [expletive] up," she said, according to court documents.

"Do you know if my sister's okay?" she asked. When police informed her of her sister's death, Jarrells reportedly began to cry. "Oh f—, I thought I just nipped her," she said. Details of their argument have not been revealed.

Alyssa, a mother of three, is remembered as a "loving mom" in a GoFundMe memorial that has raised over $14,000 to support her three children who face "a whole new life to navigate" after the tragic loss of their mother.
