Witness Mistook Bow-And-Arrow Supermarket Rampage As 'Squid Game' Sounds

A man living next to a supermarket thought that distressing sounds were coming from his television as he was watching Squid Games. He later realized that the ruckus he was hearing was coming from the rampage next door. A bow and arrow-wielding man had attacked those at the supermarket. Five people were reportedly killed in the attack.

Shortly before 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13 emergency services received a call from the supermarket Coop Extra in the Norwegian town of Kongsberg. The call was made after a man entered the store carrying a bow and a quiver of arrows and started shooting at people. Norwegian police arrived at the store shortly after the call.

24-year-old Sarkis Younan who lives next to Coop Extra recalled the incident. He told the local news site, VG, that he had been to the store just an hour before the attack. At the time of the attack, he was watching the popular Korean Netflix show, Squid Games. Hearing the sounds coming from the rampage unfolding next door, the student thought it was coming from the show. The flashing lights of the police vehicles made him realized that something serious had occurred in real life.

Arriving at the scene, the officers tried to apprehend the suspect who managed to escape. The police cordoned off the area and tried to arrest the man. A witness reported that a woman was stabbed in the area where the suspect was being tracked, BBC reported. It is not clear if the woman was stabbed by the same perpetrator.

Police eventually managed to apprehend the accused who had not been named yet. Authorities revealed that the man is a Danish citizen. Danish authorities stated that they will be cooperating in the investigation by the Norwegian authorities.

The motive of the attack has not been identified. The Norwegian authorities are investigating the incident as a terror attack. All the victims of the bow-and-arrow wielding man who died were reportedly between 50 to 70 years of age.

It was also reported that an off-duty officer was at the supermarket during the attack. The officer was reportedly shot in the back with an arrow. He along with another victim sustained injuries but survived the attack.
