Have you been missing “Game Of Thrones” since it aired its last season? Well, bid farewell to your woes for the much-awaited Netflix series “The Witcher” has already been renewed for a second installment, weeks before its first season has even launched on Netflix, i.e., on December 20, 2019.
Instead of basing the series on the widely popular gaming franchise, the show will be an adaptation of the book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The series will star Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Build on a big budget, apparent from the trailer of the show, “The Witcher” is expected to match and maybe even bypass the success of Game Of Thrones.
As shared by Netflix, “The Witcher” will be telling the tale of "Geralt, a mutated monster hunter [who] struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts."
The series trailer, which was launched at the Comic-Con in Tuscany, Italy, gave us a closer look at the era portrayed in the series, the perfect look and attire of Henry Cavill, and also teases Geralt and Yennefer's first-ever meeting. It promised a hefty banquet of getting to watch Cavill as a brave and bold monster hunter fighting knights and slaying beasts.
The production of Season 2 of “The Witcher” is expected to hit the floor in 2020 and will be launching its brand new eight episodes by 2021. The second season will once again see Cavill reprising his role as Geralt, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, and Freya Allan will be returning as Ciri, as well.
With the show getting a second season renewed much before its first season has even been launched on the giant streaming platform, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is on cloud nine with anticipation. “I am so excited that before viewers dive into season one, we are already able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri, and to showcase more of the amazing work that our cast and crew have delivered,” she said.
