Wisdom Teeth removal may be the cause of death in the passing of Marek Lapinski, 25, of San Diego, Calif. Reports from medical officials show that during a procedure to remove two wisdom teeth, Marek Lapinski was given Propofol, an instantaneous anesthetic, and soon began coughing.
Lapinski's family told a San Diego FOX affiliate that Marek Lapinski was given six different sedatives by his dental surgeon during the wisdom teeth procedure. After he began to react negatively to the anesthesia given by oral surgeon Dr. Steven Paul, he was administered CPR and rushed to a nearby hospital where he died only three days later.
"I really pray to God that there's a hell of an investigation on this," Lapinski's friend Tony Keiser said of the Temecula, Calif., surgery gone wrong. Paul allegedly showed up at the hospital Lapinski was being treated at in order to offer an apology to the family. The possible culprit, Propofol, was the drug that Dr. Conrad Robert Murray allegedly administered to late performer Michael Jackson that caused his death.
Clark Hudson, Dr. Paul's lawyer in the wisdom teeth death investigation, said that "no surgery is without risk," and that Paul followed correct "protocol" when administering the wisdom teeth removal. Reports also surfaced that noted gauze was found inside Marek Lapinski's mouh that possibly interfered with his ability to breath while sedated. Autopsy results on Marek Lapinski are yet forthcoming. Marek Lapinski's mother April told reporters that Marek had no known health issues that would have caused such a fatal reaction to normally routine dental surgery.
