A Milwaukee man is accused of killing his sister and shooting his parents during an argument about dirty dishes, authorities report.

Gerardo Jimenez-Rico, 32, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide in connection to the Jan. 22 incident.

Police discovered Jimenez-Rico's father and mother suffering from gunshot wounds and his sister, Jocelyn Jimenez, fatally shot when they responded to the scene Wednesday night, WISN reported. His mother was found lying on top of her daughter "in a protective manner," according to the criminal complaint.

Two others, including his sister's 3-year-old daughter and a cognitively delayed adult, were inside the home when the shooting occurred but found unharmed.

Jimenez-Rico turned himself in that evening at the District 1 police station, confessing to the shooting. He told investigators that his family had just returned from a month-long trip to Mexico, which he did not join for financial reasons he attributed to unemployment. He claimed his family often "ganged up on him" over his unemployment, which he described as bullying.

The argument escalated when his father complained about dirty dishes in the sink, with his sister reportedly joining in. Jimenez-Rico said he "was just fed up" and pulled out a handgun, first shooting his father. He then shot his sister, who had armed herself with a knife, and his mother, though he insisted he did not intend to harm her and could offer no explanation as to why he did.

Jimenez-Rico is being held on a $1 million cash bail. A GoFundMe has been set up to benefit the surviving daughter of Jocelyn Jimenez.
