Dong Nguyen has finally opened up about the reason he removed the widely popular Flappy Bird game from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. The reason being because the game became an “addictive product.” In an interview with Forbes Nguyen revealed the reason he removed Flappy Bird from the mobile game market he also addressed the rumors that the game brought in large amounts of money daily and addressed the Nintendo legal issues rumor as well.
Fans were so upset by the Flappy Bird removal that they even said the take down could be a case for piracy because they would miss it so much. "Flappy Bird was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed,” he said in an interview. “But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever.” As for the money Flappy Bird brought in, Nguyen didn’t confirm or deny that the amount was $50,000 a day, saying “I don’t know the exact figure, but I do know it’s a lot." Nguyen also addressed the rumor that he came under legal pressure from Nintendo to remove the game. He denies that that was the case, and says that the inclusion of the familiar green pipes were merely coincidental.
Nguyen’s guilt was the ultimate decision to remove the game. "My life has not been as comfortable as I was before," he explained to Forbes. "I couldn't sleep. I don't think it's a mistake. I have thought it through." While Flappy Bird is gone for good Nguyen assured that none of his other titles would be removed unless they begin to have the same behavioral problems that Flappy Bird had. Although Flappy Bird caused a little havoc in Nguyen’s life, it hasn’t put him off of making games and the success of Flappy Bird has given him more confidence. "After the success of Flappy Bird, I feel more confident, and I have freedom to do what I want to do."
