Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are more regal than Kate Middleton and Prince William, a royal biographer claimed. According to Andrew Morton, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex proved this when they introduced Baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor to the world, days after he was born on May 6.
For the months that led up to the new royal baby’s birth, Prince Harry and Meghan kept most of the details of Meghan’s pregnancy and birth plan under tight wraps. They did just the same after the baby was born, opting for a private photo call with only a few members of the press to introduce their son. This was different from what Prince William and Kate did with all their three children, in which they appeared publicly immediately after Kate’s recovery.
Morton noted that Prince Harry and Meghan’s decision to choose a more controlled approach when it comes to Baby Archie’s first photo shoot made them look a lot more regal than the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. “It played out very well,” he said on Yahoo’s “The Royal Box.” “They controlled the narrative, they controlled the photo call,” he added.
“We’ve had far more pictures than we would have had if it had just been outside of the hospital because we’ve had that lovely picture of the Queen and Doria Ragland,” Morton also stated. “In a funny kind of way, it’s been kind of more than previous photo calls,” he continued. It can be recalled that the royal couple made their first public appearance with their newborn on May 8, two days after his birth at Portland Hospital in London.
Another royal historian, Anna Whitelock, also praised Prince Harry and Meghan for blending royal tradition with modernity when they made their baby announcement on Instagram. “We saw a blending of the traditional and the modern,” she said.
“The backdrop of St. George Hall in Windsor, where they did the photo call, but we’ve seen images release on Instagram — the favor channel of communication of Harry and Meghan,” she added, also citing their groundbreaking photo op with Queen Elizabeth and Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother.
“Really, a celebration of this new multiethnic royal family. This is about a new age of social media engagement,” she said.
