It's been over a year since Meghan Markle married into the Royal family, but the British still don't seem too keen with the Suits actor. While a handful have applauded her for being "modern", not too many are happy with the tradition-breaking Duchess of Sussex. Here are a few reasons why Markle's popularity is on the decline:
1. Too much rule-breaking: If there's one thing that the Royals are known for, it's being sticklers for tradition. Whether you're born or married into the family, there's a long list of do's and don'ts that Royals are expected to follow - and since day one, it's been apparent that Markle wants to break that mold. From refusing to wearing panthoses, closing her own car door, participating in the Queen's festivities even before she was part of the family, to her signing autographs, hugging people, and more. The list goes on and Markle shows no signs of letting up.
2. Markle's "Hollywood Entitlement": According to David Starkey, one of Britain's most celebrated historians, he feels that the American actor has too much Hollywood entitlement. While privacy to a certain degree is not too much for a royal to ask, the public is accustomed to hearing news about the royal children. So they were greatly disappointed when Markle kept Archie's birth plan under wraps and had a private baptism for him - a stark contradiction from the Cambridges.
3. She's apparently a terror to work for: Royal insiders reported that royal staff and aides have dubbed Markle the "Duchess Difficult". She apparently loves to bombard the staff with emails at 5 a.m. and apparetnly gives people a hard time when things don't go her way. Case in point was a time when she was upset that she couldn't wear a certain tiara with emeralds to her wedding because of its possible Russian origin. She and Prince Harry apparently caused quite a ruckus that the Queen had to intervene with a stern word for her grand son.
Nowadays, the Sussexes are at war with a number of publications which Prince Harry has said has been bullying Markle - but seemingly without the support of the Royal family. One can only hope that things get better for Markle in the near future.
