Netflix 2017
We love Netflix and these are the shows that we watched all the way through this year. Netflix

When Netflix broke the scene as a one-of-a-kind digital platform a few years ago, giving us some of our favourite shows and movies in one place, the streaming giant barely had any strong contenders to compete against.

Cut to 2019, and maintaining its status as being everyone’s favourite go-to platform isn’t as simple anymore with the entry of some of its more formidable competitors like Amazon Prime, Hulu, and the latest addition of Disney+.

It is the latter that holds all the promise of becoming Netflix’s number one rival, with many predicting Disney+ to be the downfall Netflix never saw coming. Mere speculations aside, one has to agree that both platforms have their own merits but it is not really logical for an individual to subscribe to Netflix and Disney+ at the same time as their subscription charges are far from cheap.

In order to ensure that you make an informed decision, here is how the two big names in the digital streaming space stand in terms of quality and quantity:

1. Content

As we know, Disney+ is going to be the home to around 600 movies and TV shows, including all of the Star Wars films, new Marvel movies as well as Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, Disney animated films, and all 30 seasons of The Simpsons. So, imagine looking forward to a live-action Star Wars series and Marvel shows like WandaVision, Falcon and Winter Soldier, Loki, and Hawkeye.

But when it comes to providing quality content, Netflix has always been the king, especially with its original shows. The platform has given us binge-worthy shows like Stranger Things, The Crown, Russian Doll and The Haunting of Hill House and feature films like the Oscar-winning original, Roma. Recently, Netflix also collaborated with Nickelodeon on a multi-year deal of producing original animated shows and films.

So, while Disney+ has a number of blockbuster shows and films, Netflix provides you with more options spread across a varied spectrum and catering to different demands at the same time.

2. Which platform is cheaper: Disney+ or Netflix?

Currently, Disney+'s monthly subscription will cost you $7 or $70 per year though there are chances of it getting more expensive down the line. However, Disney+ doesn’t charge an extra fee when providing facilities like playing on four different devices at once and supports 4K Ultra HD video at no extra charge.

Netflix, on the other hand, is already climbing the steep trajectory of high prices. As of now, its basic plan costs $9 a month, wherein you can stream on one screen and that too only on SD resolution. You have to invest $13 a month for a standard subscription, which includes two simultaneous streams and HD resolution. For a four-screen Ultra HD Premium plan, the amount is $16.

3. The devices the platforms are available on

While Disney+ is available on all streaming devices like Apple TV (tvOS), iOS, Google Chromecast, Android, Android TV, etc., Netflix can be streamed on any tablet, smartphone, gaming console, smart TV, etc.

So, if you prefer a variety of content and have different tastes, your best bet is Netflix. But if you are a big Disney fan and a diehard lover of Marvel and Star Wars, Disney+ is the best option.
