The Sharkeisha Fight Video has gone totally viral and spread across social media. The video, which shows two African-American girls in a confrontation that turns very violent very quickly, garnered thousands of likes on instagram before being removed from the site. It has similarly engendered dozens of memes and online jokes. However, as Hip Hop Wired suggests, this kind of video is promoting a racial stereotype of violence and agression among African-American women.

The Sharkeisha fight video perpetuates the idea of the 'Angry Black Woman.' As a Washington Post article suggests, "the angry black female has been a pervasive stereotype in the United States. Sadly, this overly simplified opinion may be just as inescapable today as it was during the slave era." Indeed, the mammoth reaction from web users around the country would seem to suggest that such a stereotypical conception of the African American woman is alive and, well, kicking. Hip Hop Wired expresses it most accurately: "If you do choose to laugh at this particular travesty, keep in mind that you'll be chuckling along with a legion of people who think this is the sort of classless behavior typical of any and all Black women, right on up to the First Lady."
