The White House rejected on Wednesday a report claiming that Elon Musk is close to leaving his current role due to being a growing political liability.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a post on X that the report by Politico was "garbage," claiming that "Elon Musk and President Trump have both *publicly* stated that Elon will depart from public service as a special government employee when his incredible work at DOGE is complete."
This “scoop” is garbage.

It is unclear whether Leavitt was saying Musk's job is close to being done.
The report detailed that President Donald Trump has told members of his inner circle that Musk will be stepping back in the next weeks, going back to leading his companies and taking more of a supporting role in the administration.
The outlet described frustration among Trump allies with Musk's "unpredictability," saying they "increasingly view the billionaire as a political liability." Trump, it added, remains pleased with Musk's work. He is set to retain an informal role and be part of the administration.
Some illustrated their claims by highlighting the Democrats' victory in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race on Tuesday despite Musk throwing his weight and money behind te race.
The head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and groups with ties to him spent some $20 million to help Republican candidate Bracd Schimel tilt the court toward a more conservative approach.
Musk also gave $2 million to Wisconsin voters at the event on Sunday, declaring them spokespeople for his political group. His political action committee (PAC) also offered $100 to Wisconsin voters if they sign a petition of the kind. The effort was ultimately unfruitful.
