The Trump administration might have been in the eye of the storm ever since the COVID-19 outbreak spiraled out of control in the U.S.
But, White House senior advisor Jared Kushner believes that the President and his allies were always headed in the right direction -- as far as strategies used to combat the pandemic is concerned.
“Some people have chosen to play politics with the pandemic, President Trump has opted not to politicize it and he’s done everything possible to try to figure how to help people get whatever care they need,” said Kushner during an exclusive interview with CNBC’s Hadley Gamble on Friday.
“This is a global pandemic, it came from China into our country. It’s ravaged many countries throughout the world and I think President Trump has dealt with it in a very responsible way,” he added.
The United States of America stands at the top spot among countries to be the hardest hit by the global health crisis. The country, as per the Hopkins stats, has crossed the 5 million mark and over 1,70,000 deaths and accounts for about 25 percent of the total number of cases to have been recorded globally.
President Trump amassed severe backlash for undermining the severity of the pandemic, while his administration’s coronavirus response task force has been criticized for its lack of transparency over its dealings.
One of the biggest accusations hurled at the task force was that a national strategy over-testing was reportedly dropped for a state-by-state response in a bid to showcase the Democratic governors in some of the hardest-hit states in poor light. The allegations, however, were repeatedly quashed by the White House.
While Kushner did not offer an incisive explanation to some of the questions directed at him during the chat, the advisor maintained that the federal government did its bit as far as fulfilling its responsibilities as laid out on the national strategy was concerned. “With regards to a national strategy, the job of the federal government was to get the resources that the country needed,” he said.
“You heard all these hysterical reports about doctors on the front lines not being able to get masks, not having enough ventilators, you had governors requesting a lot more ventilators than they needed, and again, every patient in America that needed a ventilator got a ventilator, President Trump distributed them properly,” he added.
Kushner's statements also suggested that while he believes some things could've been done differently, Trump did make a lot of right decisions as far as tackling the novel coronavirus is concerned.
