The Lakers' season could be in dire straits with LeBron James exiting Wednesday night’s loss against the Clippers with a groin injury. The Lakers are already 2-9 this season and have the second-worst record in the entire league. An injury to LeBron could put the little hopes the Lakers have for this season to bed.
Team doctors will evaluate James on Thursday to determine the extent of the injury. Before he left the game, James had 30 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.
The Lakers’ depth has been a huge issue all season already. They don’t have many guys they can rely on and if James is missing significant time expect the Lakers' season to play out a lot as last season did for them. James did miss the end of the 2018-19 season due to a groin injury as well.
The Lakers will need even more production from both Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook if James is out. Both of them have had up-and-down seasons to this point, but maybe some added responsibility and touches can help them get into a consistent rhythm. However, the Lakers still don’t have the shooting necessary to give those two the driving lanes they need to thrive.
The Lakers are likely headed toward another massively disappointing season. A serious injury to James may only accelerate that and could lead to big changes as the season continues.
