It's finally here! Disney Plus, the digital streaming platform Disney has famously touted as the future of the company, was launched on November 12 in the US, Canada, and the Netherlands. And despite the login problems and errors on the very first day, Disney Plus crossed the milestone of 10 million subscribers- a number HBO Now took almost three years to cross!

Launched as a competitor of existing platforms like Netflix and HBO Max, Disney Plus was downloaded 3.2 million times and had a viewership of 1.3 million hours within its first 24 hours.

Disney Plus is a paid subscription without any advertising and it provides viewers with the content curated by Disney and Fox as well as new, exclusive TV shows, shorts, movies, and documentaries.

How much is Disney Plus?

The monthly subscription rate of Disney Plus is about $5.83 a month- half the price of HBO Now, the upcoming HBO Max, and Netflix’s cheapest plan of $9 per month. If you avail its yearly subscription then it will cost you $70.

Compared with Netflix, Disney Plus comes with perks like four simultaneous streams, 4K Ultra HD in Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos immersive audio, and HDR10- things for which Netflix provide at extra charges. Also, the platform has collaborated with Verizon and will be providing the carrier's unlimited wireless customers a free year of Disney Plus.

As for Disney's other streaming services - Hulu and sports-focused ESPN Plus- Disney Plus is also offering a triple-service subscription for just $13 a month.

What shows are on Disney Plus?

Disney Plus will be streaming films of Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and those of Disney's own studios. There will also be Disney original shows and movies like the highly anticipated Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian and a Star Wars prequel series based on Rogue One. So, all in all, there will be somewhere around 500 films and 7,500 episodes of television.

So, basically Disney Plus includes all of Disney's family-friendly content up to a PG-13 rating. As a result of the Fox takeover, it'll also offer all 30 seasons of The Simpsons. Films like The Sound of Music, The Princess Bride and Malcolm in the Middle will be added to the platform within the first year. Frozen 2 will be streamed on the platform next summer.

It will also have seven live-action spin-off series from its Avengers movies like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a Loki series, WandaVision, a Hawkeye series in fall 2021, and many other series based on the superheroes loved by fans across the globe.

When will it be available across the globe?

While Disney Plus has been launched in the US, Canada, and the Netherlands, it is scheduled to arrive on Nov. 19 in Australia and New Zealand. Then on March 31, 2020, it will be launched across Western Europe, which includes the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, etc.

In Eastern Europe and Latin America, Disney Plus will be launched in early October 2020. For the Asia Pacific, the launch date has been spread over the course of two years wherein it can be released anytime.
