Quora user Margaret Shannon thinks that it’s probably because Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s emotional needs don’t match. “Diana and Charles were both profoundly emotionally needy people who were expecting the other to supply what was missing in themselves,” she explained.

Shannon surmised that Prince Charles did not get what he emotionally wanted from Diana. “Camilla seems to have a very steady disposition and a healthy lack of ego,” she added. “Having had a nurturing, loving family background she is less emotionally needy than either Charles or Diana. So she was and is able to give Charles the kind of love and care he needs.”

Another Quora user, Sallie Smythe, sees things a bit differently. She proposed that Prince Charles probably wanted “a woman who did not outshine him” in terms of popularity. Diana did not fit the bill as she was extremely popular not only in the UK but even in the international arena.

“Even with Diana, Princess of Wales no longer here to compete with him, Charles is allegedly furious that the ‘Fab Four’ — William and Catherine, Harry and Meghan — are, in his eyes, stealing his thunder,” Smythe noted. She added that Charles has no problem with Camilla since she does not possess that level of “celebrity status.”

In another Quora page, Deanna Eppers offered her own explanation on why Prince Charles and Camilla are compatible. “They share a love of outdoor sports. Horses, polo, hunting, shooting, and generally tramping around the great outdoors,” she explained. They are from the same generation, same taste in music, they ran around in the same crowd, and they fell in love back then.”

Eileen Wood, another Quora user, shared the same view. “She understands him. They have many similar interests, unlike Prince Charles and Diana.”

While Camilla might have been portrayed negatively by the press when Princess Diana was still around, some of those who’ve actually met her in person back then say that she has this almost indescribable effect on men. “What I noticed quite early on was the effect she had on the room,” according to royal biographer Penny Junor. “You'd have a load of guests standing around drinking, and then Camilla would come in — and she really has whatever it is that men go for.”
