Another star soccer player who made a name for himself at the World Cup is headed to a major club overseas. Ecuador striker, Enner Valencia is currently undergoing a physical at West Ham as it appears Valencia will be joining Argentina’s Mauro Zárate on the West Ham front line.
Valencia was brilliant in Brazil for Ecuador as he scored all three of his team’s goals in group play. It was rumored after Ecuador was eliminated from the tournament that a lot of English Premier League suitors would be after his services, but it appears that West Ham was the first team to pony up.
It has been reported that the West Ham Hammers paid a fee close to the $25 million record they paid for forward Andy Carroll this time last year. Nobody knows for certain what the exact number is, but Jesús Martínez, the chairman of Valencia’s current club is insisting it would be a Mexican record:
“There are various offers for Enner Valencia, the strongest and closest to what the player and us are demanding is from a club from England. I won’t talk about prices, but if he is sold, it will be the highest transfer fee ever in Mexican football, otherwise he won’t be sold.” he told Ecuagol.
“We are seeking the possibility that is convenient for him and the club and that he is sold for the price that we like. We want to keep a percentage of the player in case he is sold in the future to another big team in Europe. It hurts me, I don’t want to sell him and neither does the manger or the fans but we can’t go against the career the kid aspires to.” He concluded.
Valencia will compete for a spot on West Ham’s formidable top line and should be starting at forward when the Hammers season kicks off at Tottenham.
