The Teen Choice Awards took place on Sunday, August 10, 2014, but instead of making headlines for the awesomeness of the show, the cool performances or the red carpet fashion, teens have taken their outrage to Twitter over some claims that the award show was rigged. Vine celebrity Cameron Dallas exposed the truth through a tweet claiming that he was notified of being a winner before the polling was done. YouTube star Shane Dawson also shared the sentiment, while Matthew Espinosa, another vine celebrity, said they used everyone "for promotion."
Although the three young men have deleted the tweets, fans were quick to take a snapshot and spread them all over the Internet, creating the hashtag "#TeensDontHaveAChoiceAwards" and complaining about feeling used and cheated on by the show, while some went as far as to say that they wouldn't be supporting the award show in the following years. Below you can see the alleged deleted tweets:
While Teen Choice Awards is yet to comment on the matter, it's being reported that a disclaimer ran on the screen during the show, saying that producers have the right to choose the winner from the top four vote generators, which means that they can pick the winners and notify them ahead so they will attend the show. The same disclaimer can be found at the TCA's "Voting Rules" section of their website, which reads:
"Winners for the Teen Choice Awards are determined using the votes cast on the Site. Votes are tabulated electronically and winners are determined based on the nominees in each category with the highest number of eligible votes. Teenasaurus Rox reserves the right to choose the winner from the top four vote generators."
What do you think? Is this really a "scandal" or did you expect something like this all along?
