Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 Crash At Nurburgring AutoGespot

The winding ribbon of asphalt at the Nurburgring has an unsettling tendency to instantly transform into a serpent at any corner. Nicknamed "The Green Hell" by legendary racing driver Jackie Stewart, the Nurburgring is one of the longest, and most challenging, racing circuits in the world.

It's deadliness is known far and wide but it's also because of its infamy, history, and allure that so many driving enthusiasts make a point to participate in the pilgrimage. Respecting the demands of the circuit, drivers take some of the best sports cars in the world as their Nurburgring weapon of choice.

On Friday, a public track day attracted an attendee that brought along a rare Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, the latest and greatest production RS model to come from Stuttgart.

Perhaps dipping one of the wheels into the grass out of the frame, a spectator manages to capture the 911 enters into the camera shot sideways at very high speed. Slamming into barriers as it slid down the track, its center locking right rear wheel snapped right off, flying away down the track and hopping spectacularly close to one of the spectators holding onto the video camera.

Uploaded on AutoGespot, the Porsche slows to a halt, crippled in the middle of the track in a horrible shape. Only 600 examples of the GT3 RS 4.0 were ever built and each retails for $185,000+. Packing 500-hp, the GT3 RS 4.0 packs the largest displacement ever in a 911 and even more power than the GT3 RSR cup car.
