Through a video circulating on social networking sites, fans of Argentina showed a unique and unorthodox way of supporting their team: comparing them to Mexico. "The real World Cup spirit" is the name of the clip in which the Argentine squad are encouraged to "bring home the Cup or go directly to Europe and not return." The Argentine soccer team, one of the most successful teams in world, is part of Group F with Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria.
The 'Parecemos Mexico' voiceover encourages the Argentine players in a unique style: "See if you gain something in Brazil," it says. "You bunch of assholes making millions and have not made the Quarterfinal in 5 World Cups...You seem like Mexico! Bring home the Cup or go sraight away back to Europe . That is the cry of 40 million souls who are the most patriotic fans in the orld and if you lose they cry: dead. Manga you are dead to us."
The Argentine squad has won two World Cups, Argentina 1978 and Mexico 1986: their most famous players were Mario Kempes and Diego Armando Maradona, respectively. In Brazil 2014, under the leadership of Alejandro Sabella and with the captaincy of Lionel Messi, Argentina is widely expected to achieve the World Cup victory. With El Tri's disappointing results in the leadup to the World Cup, the video is actually making a bit of sense.
