Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared unbothered by keeping US President Donald Trump waiting an hour for their scheduled call, as he dismissed a scheduling reminder in front of an amused audience of oligarchs.

The world leaders scheduled the high-stakes call for 9 am ET with plans to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine, but Putin remained at the business conference in Moscow until 9:52 am.

Putin shrugged off press secretary Dmitry Peskov when he pointed out that the Kremlin had already announced the timing of the call. "Don't listen to Peskov," Putin quipped with a smirk and a wave of his hand as the audience erupted in laughter.

Footage of the moment quickly spread on social media, with many Americans condemning Putin's lack of urgency as a sign of disrespect.

"Putin continues humiliating Trump who is still totally oblivious to what's going on," one viewer wrote, with another saying, "Putin is making Trump wait again," and "They're literally making fun of Trump."

"Putin is just openly mocking Trump at this point," another user agreed. "If this were any other world leader, Trump would be pissed and recalibrate his position to oppose them in any way he could."

"This shows the level of respect Putin actually has for Trump - which is zero," someone else wrote. "There's no chance this wasn't planned. He wants everyone to know he's going to make Trump wait for him."

Russian state-controlled news station, RT, noted Putin's conference appearance was cut short compared to last year. "Perhaps someone keeps relentlessly calling?" they wrote, seemingly poking fun at Trump's eagerness to speak to Putin.

Despite the delay, the White House described the conversation as "going well."
