Warner Bros. finally released the new official trailer for the upcoming film "Pacific Rim" directed by Guillermo del Toro and written by Del Toro and Travis Beacham.
In this new action film set in the near future, giant monsters appear mysteriously from beneath the Pacific Ocean and the only way to defeat them is with massive robots operated by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.
Sounds amazing, right?
Here are five things you need to know about this sci-fi thriller that's going to keep you glued to your seat!
Guillermo del Toro took some inspiration from Francisco Goya's painting "The Colossus" and hopes that the battles in the film evoke the same impact as the painting does. Another source of inspiration was his love for Japanese pop culture.
Tom Cruise was considered for a key part in the film, but was replaced by Idris Elba.
The director decided at the beginning that he wasn't going to shoot or convert the film to 3D because the effect would not work due to the size of the robots and monsters. He explained: "I didn't want to make the movie 3D because when you have things that big... the thing that happens naturally, you're looking at two buildings let's say at 300 feet [away], if you move there is no parallax. They're so big that, in 3D, you barely notice anything no matter how fast you move... To force the 3D effects for robots and monsters that are supposed to be big you are making their [perspective] miniaturized, making them human scale."
It was later announced that the movie would in fact be converted to 3D, and it took an extra of 40 weeks to finish.
To cast Ellen McLain in the movie as a homage to GLaDOS, Del Toro secured permission from Valve Corporation, responsible of making the "Portal" video games.
And, last but not least: There will be a sequel written by Beacham and Del Toro, but it's still unknown if the latter is going to direct the second film too.
Now we'll let you see the trailer and then you can comment below to let us know what you think about it. Is it going to be as epic as it looks?
