Univision took swift action in firing Rodner Figueroa following his remarks about Michelle Obama. The "El Gordo y La Flaca" host made comments that were deemed racist about the First Lady of the U.S. saying, "she looked like she was from the 'Planet of the Apes' film." If you watch the clip of the moment, Lili Estefan, was quick to laugh at the joke just like the crew on the set. The only one that thought and processed what Rodner said was Raúl De Molina. He caught on and tried to smooth out the situation by complementing Obama and counter the unfortunate critique from the Venezuelan personality. Where does this leave Estefan? Should she also suffer repercussions from laughing at the distasteful joke? Should she apologize? We will be paying close attention to their telecast this afternoon to see what Lili does. Watch the video down below and tell us what you think!
After being axed from the network over a racist comment made about the First Lady, Michelle Obama. Now the former "Sal y Pimienta" host is asking for forgiveness in an open letter to Obama. Figueroa doesn't want to be deemed a racist and feels Univision is humiliating him after the turn of events. "I offer my sincerest apologies for a comment that I made about the characterization from a make-up artist that I made about you in the Univision entertainment program 'El Gordo y La Flaca,'" the letter read. "I want to make it clear that I'm not racist and it was directed personally to you, but to the characterization of the artist, that left a lot to be desired. The clip in full context is proof."
