A member of the British royal guards collapsed while guarding Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin in Westminster Hall, London.
The incident happened Wednesday, during the 24-hour vigil period for the late monarch. Two police officers immediately rushed to assist the guard who fell on his face after falling off the platform where the Queen's coffin is located. The silence in the historic hall was abruptly interrupted after the man fainted, causing BBC to cut the live stream of the event in the lying-in-state.
The rotation in guarding the Queen happened every 20 minutes for over six hours before the incident occurred as reported.
Medical assistance was quickly offered to the afflicted guard and a stretcher was brought in. Fortunately, he gained consciousness and left the Hall with the help of the other royal guards.
Her Majesty’s remains would be available for the members of the mourning public to view 24 hours a day starting Sept. 14 until the morning of Sept. 19, UK time.
Thousands of people from around the world are expected to bid farewell to the longest-reigning British monarch to date.
The public viewing period would be succeeded by the procession of the monarch’s coffin from Westminster Hall to the infamous Westminster Abbey, according to the official royal website.
About 500 dignitaries, including world leaders, public figures and other European royals, are also expected to arrive and pay respects to the Queen during the state funeral on Monday.
Among the dignitaries expected to arrive are US President Joe Biden and Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro.
King Felipe VI of Spain and his wife Queen Letizia, as well as Former Spanish King Juan Carlos I and former Queen Sofia, are among the members of the European royals who will be present.
The former King of Spain is a distant cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.
From Westminster Abbey, Her Majesty’s coffin would be brought to Wellington Arch, Windsor and to St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in Berkshire.
The Queen would be buried alongside her late husband, Prince Philip, who died last year.
Her father King George VI, her mother Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and other British royal predecessors are also buried in St. George’s Chapel.
